Lake Sapanca and nearby Maşukiye are among the most popular day trips from Istanbul. From Taksim to Sapanca it is about 133 km, around 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours 10 minutes depending on traffic. That makes it a more relaxed day out than Bursa.
This trip is booked as hourly chauffeur hire; it is not a guided tour. Your driver picks you up at your hotel, waits wherever you stop and takes you back in the evening. For Sapanca, the minimum booking is 8 hours, which includes 200 km. The round trip is about 270 km, so a 8-hour booking will go over the included kilometres; a longer booking includes more.

An example of about 11 hours: 09:00 leave your hotel. 11:00 a walk by Lake Sapanca. 13:00 lunch by the stream in Maşukiye. 15:00 Kartepe views or a café stop. 17:30 head back. 20:00 Istanbul.
The motorway and Maşukiye get busier at weekends and on holidays, so go on a weekday if you can, or leave early.
